Re: New Knife Design
It's a Wharncliff pattern blade. It is hard to see in the thumbnail pic but click and see the enlarged version to get the real detail. The main characteristic of the Wharncliff is the perfectly flat cutting edge, like a razor blade.

Not 100% sure what I think of it but if you need a tester I'll volunteer my services.

yes this is a Wharncliff pattern. the blue lines are the dimension lines. the white are the knife.
if you enlarge the pic you might be able to see it better.
i am not sure if i will ever make this knife. i have a lot of designs i may never get to make. i just draw them for fun.

Re: New Knife Design
Have you ever made one, just a prototype, that's heat treated and sharpened just not super polished and all pretty? That could get you the feel for your design in a practical sense and get some use with it before you scrap the whole thing. Call it, like I do, "proof of concept". Once that phase is finished then you move on to production/sellable quality.

you have described the process that i go through before i release a new design to the public. i have 2 knives the are in my production line, CJS Ironclad, and CJS Backcountry. the Ironclad was my first knife and went through lots of design changes and countless tests. it took months to get it right, and i learned alot! the Backcountry was just released in February and went through similar changes and tests. in all the Backcountry went though 4 prototypes and minor changes were made in each. these knives were sent out to friends of mine for testing, and a couple were given as gifts, or as "thank you" gifts for testing and submitting ideas.
taking a knife from a CAD drawing to a real knife is a process, a long process. since i am so backed up on orders, this knife wont see the light of day for a while!
Re: New Knife Design
I see it now. I think it has its merits. It would be good for drilling hearth board holes, but the point looks a little fragile.
I have no experience with that blade shape, but I drop my knives a lot and that is why my mora doesnt have the tip she used to haha.
