Memorial Weekend Plans?
what do you guys have planned for this memorial weekend?
i was planning a 2 day kayak trip with my brother-in-law and friend, but they have to work. so i have decided to do a one day kayak trip in the local lake and river. i plan on waking up early saturday and heading to the bait shop, picking up some B moth, and launching my kayak at the boat launch at Lake George. then is a 45 min. paddle up stream toward Deep River. stopping along the way to do some fishing. there is a lilly pad spot i wanna throw a weedless in to see if i can land a bass, i am also taking my fly rod.
around noon i plan on pulling on to the bank, and cook up some lunch. should be a good time!

Re: Memorial Weekend Plans?
nope, no fish (no feesh either! lol) but i did learn some things.
for one i forgot my Emberlit stove. normally i use that to hold my Esbit alcohol stove and to cook on. so without that i had to improvise for lunch. so what i did was put the alcohol stove inside my large cooking pot, and put the lid to the alcohol stove on end inside. then set the smaller pot ontop of the larger pot, which rested on the lid, to allow an air gap. (hope you can visualize that)
i also forgot to add fuel to the stove, and had to rely on my back up bottle, that only had a little bit in there. all of this was done from my kayak and cooked on a rock about 3 feet from shore, ( i made a video, but it didnt turn out good)

Re: Memorial Weekend Plans?
so today, Monday, i took off in my kayak again. this time i headed north of the lake and went up river.
i stopped for lunch and cooked up some Ramen noodles, this time i had some beef jerkey to add to it! it was great! i also remembered my Emberlit stove this time too!!
i noticed that my fork had gotten broken in my dry bag, so i had to imporvise! i use some electrical tape and taped it to my swiss army knife! it worked great!
then after lunch i ran out of water in my camel back, and had to use my Katadyn Hiker Pro to fill it up again! i love that thing!

Re: Memorial Weekend Plans?
It wasn't in the plans as far as I was concerned but the wife got a new horse. Her current horse is getting too old, and we can't keep weight on here at all, so is getting retired to the pasture. She got a Chestnut Quarter horse. Beautiful mare. I'll post pics later. This becomes bushcrafty IMO because I so want to ride out to the back 40 and camp out cowboy style, just she and I, one of these days before too long.

I don't know about weeks long ride in camps but I could host a weekend ride in camp one of these days. I have an extra horse if the wife says it's ok otherwise it's BYOH (bring your own horse).
