10x10 Nylon Tarp

hey guys i just purchased a 10x10 tarp from Big Rock Outfitters. it is an Etowah Outfitters Backpacking Tarp. i payed $55 for it!

i was looking for a waterproof nylon tarp that i can take backpacking with me to use with my Hammock. i also wanted a light weight rain fly.

i dont think this tarp met my criteria. see it is very heavy and very bulky!

i was told that this is the type of material that i need for a waterproof nylon rain fly. i was looking for something more like the hammock material that i can stuff into a small sack, and be lightweight for backpacking. not all rain flies are heavy weight, are they?

anyone have a solution here?
anyone wanna buy this tarp from me?

Etowah makes a lighter weight tarp that is 1.1oz ripstop... yours looks to be 1.9 oz material. Both of my Etowah tarps are 1.9oz and I agree the 10 x 10 is big, bulky and kinda' heavy. Maybe you need their "ultralight tarp" in the 8 x 10 size? I haven't used one though... I'm hard on gear so 1.9oz is good for me.

Look for silnylon, that's the ultra light stuff as I understand it. Try the hammock manufacturers as they pall seem to have tarps made of the same hammock material.

If I had the money, I would buy it from you. But alas I do not.

My 12x12 leaked the other week. I had it out in the back yard to give a real test and left it standing for about a week and a half to find my sleeping bag wet.

I need to get a new one but it isnt in the cards right now.

i contacted Big Rock Oufitters where i bought it from and asked it i could return it, or exchange it for what i am looking for. i have yet to hear from them. i will let you know how that turns out.

i got an email from Big Rock Outfitters today....
