August paint can kit challenge

Post by Mathan Maloch on Mon Apr 23, 2012 3:49 pm

I dont know about the rest of you but I am really excited about the paint can challenge. The rule is that you can bring what you can fit in a paint can plus your edc.

Not that I find anyone on here to be dishonest, in fact it is the exact opposite, but in the spirit of transparency I am going to list what my edc items are. I wish I could take pics but I cannot get them on my computer.

1. Wallet which I have some first aid stuff in.
2. Canadian Belt knife or Mora #2/0 (depending on the mood)
3. Tinder canister (chew can) in a holster on my belt
4. Ferro rod mounted in antler
5. Lighter
6. Work keys
7. Chap stick
8. Whistle/ compass/ thermometer/ mag glass.

That is it. Sometimes I carry a hank of cordage like 8 or 12 feet but since I dont do that on a consistent basis I am not counting it.

Lets see what you guys lug around with ya all the time!

I used to carry an entire fire kit with me with which included matches, flint and steel, ferro rod, and tinder. I also carried a first aid kit too, but I consolodated that into my wallet. I might get a different hard case wallet to make it easier to do so.

I had to downsize even though I did add the little whisle with compass and thermometer on it, but it fits into that wierd little pocket above the normal one on the right hand side.

As soon as I know what work is scheduling me for between the months of July and September I'll be able to let you know if I can go. I'm really hoping I can go and try to push myself.

I'd love to make it but I'm going the other direction; I have to pick up my son at O'Hare Airport on 8/10 then sort his gear and get him ready for Band Camp the following week. Otherwise I'd be down for it.

So it is my understanding that our edc is not allowed anymore. I have no problem with that but I just want to be clear on it. We are meeting at 4 square for 1 or 2 nights? There will be challenges sprinkled througought?

EDC is not allowed during the event.

We will be meeting at 4 Square Sportsman's Assoc 6pm Friday night, event will end by 9:30 am Sunday.

The club Kitchen will be open to purchase lunch (not sure when they will open yet) for hot dogs chips and pop.

The club is holding a 4H event over the weekend, so there will be tours coming around to inspect each of your camps and workings. So be on top of your game! LOL

Just wanted to check in with everyone with 10 days to go before the paint can challenge to see how everyone's paint cans are coming along.

I actually worked on mine a bit last night after I got home from work. I believe I'll do a little more tweeking to it before next weekend.

Very Happy
