Introduction to Bushcraft Overnight Outing
Introduction to Bushcraft
Upon completion of this course you will have a basic understanding of camping in the woods with a Bushcraft mentality. You will gain an introduction to knife skills, shelter and basic survival skills. We will cover what to do even before you leave home. What to do if lost or injured and how to get home safe and alive.
You will learn that you do not need to spend $100’s to camp or spend time in the outdoors. You probably already have many of the items needed to spend the night in the outdoors. We will introduce how to improvise common household items into useful wood’s tools.
We will be hiking about ¾ of a mile into the campsite and spending the night in the woods. So you will need to bring a few items for the weekend.
A bag – a daypack or duffle bag
Shelter – A small tent or tarp
Sleeping bag or wool blanket
A cutting tool – Pocket knife or fixed blade knife
Water container – At least 2 quarts worth, like an empty 2 liter pop bottle
Food – You will need to bring your own food. Keep this simple like canned foods that just need to be warmed up.
We will have other supplies available for the weekend, and are asking for a $20 donation.
Over the course of the weekend you will be introduced to:
How to set up a tarp or poncho for a shelter
How to properly prepare a campfire for warmth and cooking
How you can improvise cookware
Simple knife skills
Simple knots to use when tying or lashing
How to select a proper campsite
What to do before you leave home
What to do if injured or lost
How to signal for help
